VMW Group's Innovative Interactive Media Design: DUO R-Media

Blending Architecture and Technology in a Unique User Experience

VMW Group, a leading design firm, has created an innovative interactive media design, DUO R-Media, that seamlessly blends architectural design and technology. This design, inspired by the heritage sites of Kampong Glam and the bustling city center of Singapore, offers an immersive user experience that educates visitors about the key features of Duo Residences. The design has been recognized with a Silver A' Interface, Interaction and User Experience Design Award in 2017.

The design of DUO R-Media was influenced by two main areas. Firstly, the heritage sites of Kampong Glam and the bustling city center of Singapore, which led to a photo-centric design that immerses users into the many amenities within and surrounding Duo. Secondly, the iconic hexagonal shape in Duo's logo and structural design, as well as architect Ole Scheeren's concept of concave shapes and circles, formed the core of the user interface and experience design.

The interactive media is strategically placed next to the sales gallery where physical models and 3D perspective renderings of the Duo development are displayed. The sales team uses both physical models and interactive media to explain key features of Duo before visitors are led into the show flat units. This approach enhances the visitor experience, providing a comprehensive understanding of the development.

Creating the DUO R-Media required a blend of technology and design skills. Previsualization in 3D software was done before flying a drone to capture a 360-degree panoramic photo. Photographic and CG elements were then matched in 3D software before the final image was post-processed in Photoshop. A 3D model of Duo was rendered frame by frame in 360 degrees so that it could be integrated into the interactive media as a non-video format optimized for both Flash and iOS.

The design team faced several challenges, including the need for consistency in brand identity across all collaterals representing Duo. They also had to change the status quo of mainstream perception of interactive media being akin to a website. The team had to customize and program specific UI and UX to adapt not only to mass audiences in show suites but also personal one-to-one marketing.

The DUO R-Media design has been recognized with a Silver A' Interface, Interaction and User Experience Design Award in 2017. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
